Our goal here at East Palo Alto Boxing Club is to instill self-discipline, responsibility, independence, self-worth and respect for others through boxing. We provide a nurturing, disciplined, and constructive environment for young people and all others, alike, to learn the sweet science. We believe that through boxing, children, teens, and adults can find the inner-strength and dedication it takes to compete at a high level, not only in the ring, but in life. Our vision is to help anyone that walks through our doors achieve their goals; whatever they may be. Founded by former boxer, Johnnie Gray Jr., who has boxing experience at both the amateur and professional levels, EPA Boxing Club provides the tools needed to get you started in learning and excelling at the sweet science.
EPA Boxing Club was started to give young people of East Palo Alto at-risk of joining gangs or becoming involved in criminal activity a place to work out and relieve stress. EPA Boxing Club is a place to channel negative energy into something positive for both the participants and the community. Our main goal is to provide youth with the discipline and structure they need to succeed in life. Coach Johnnie Gray has been a resident of East Palo Alto for over 30 years and knows how hard it is for young people. Boxing changed his life, and he believes that it will do the same for others. EPA Boxing Club has been a bright spot in the East Palo Alto community for over 6 years, and despite funding issues still remains a positive outlet for East Palo Alto youth.
